The Junction Volunteer Fire Department and Kimble County Ranch Fire Association serves approximately 5,500 residents over 1800 homes in The Beautiful Central Texas Hill Country.  The Department serves a 1,251 square mile area in Kimble County.  The Department also provides Mutual Aide to Kerr, Gillespie, Mason, McCullough, Menard, Schleicher, Sutton, Real and Edwards Counties in the area.

The Department provides services such as Fire, Rescue, HazMat, First Responder Services, and Fire Prevention Education.  The Department has approximately 15 fire fighting and rescue vehicles and 27 non-paid personnel

A large number of emergency calls are due to motor vehicle crashes on state and federal highways and wildfires through out the county.   In Kimble County there is an approximate 45 miles of IH-10 as well as numerous miles of State Highways.  Us 83, US 377, and US 290 all meet and hub near the City of Junction.  Due to rough terrain these often include vertical / high angle rescues.

The Kimble County Ranch Fire Association was organized in  the 1960's to raise funds to provide fire fighting equipment and trucks for rural fire suppression in Kimble County.  Each landowner in the county is asked for a donation each year of  $.03 per acre owned or a minimum donation of $35.00.  All funds received go toward  the purchase, repair and upkeep on trucks and equipment.  There are no salaries or any compensation paid to anyone in this organization since all persons involved with the KCRFA are strictly volunteer.
